Steve McClaren believes David Beckham can still do a good job in the Premiership but when it comes to England the national coach pointedly praised the pace and skills of Aaron Lennon ahead of Wednesday's friendly in Holland.
Speaking on BBC Five Live's Sportsweek programme, the England coach made it clear he is looking for a new breed of pace and youth.
"His (Beckham's) chances have not decreased on playing for England as time passes but I am really only looking forward to meeting the players who are in the squad," McClaren said. "There are some exciting players, and the three that really stand out are Aaron Lennon, Andy Johnson and Joe Cole, players who were not available to us for the last double header."
