Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn said tonight that there is a "70-30" chance he will pass over the managerial reins to a "world-class manager" before the clash with West Brom on Monday.

The Black Cats have lost all five games this season despite Quinn leading a successful takeover in the summer, John Fitzgerald and Andy Bishop scoring late goals for the Football League's bottom club to knock them out of the Carling Cup.

But the Irishman is hopeful the defeat to the Shakers will be his last.

Quinn, who would not say whether his target was under contract, said: "I stepped into this role because I didn't get the quality of manager I thought I would but we are now getting very close to doing that.

"I'll revert back to chairman as soon as possible.
