Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson today revealed that his job could be put on the line if The Red Devils fail to win the Carling Cup. If United win, it will be only their second time they have won the competition.
The good news is United have been made favourites, however the return of Jason Roberts could change that. Louis Saha is likely to settle for a place on the bench, with Ruud Van Nistelrooy replacing the French star who is currently the competitions top scorer, partnering Wayne Rooney in attack. However newspaper reports have claimed the Ferguson will drop Van Nistelrooy in favour of Saha.
The Carling Cup is of great importance to Manchester United fans and players all around the world, as surely they know that Chelsea have won the Premiership and also they are out of the Champions League and the FA Cup.
Ferguson, speaking to the Sunday Mirror said "When you are a manager, winning trophies is the only thing that keeps you in a job. When you go into the management game you don't expect to be a loser, you expect to be a winner."
"I have to take the long-term view as well, but going even a year is too long without a trophy for this club. Going more than a day without winning something is too long at Manchester United. That’s the pressure we are under here and in that respect this game is vital to us", added the coach.
United are likely to play with Gary Neville, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand and Mikael Silvestre across the back. However Patrice Evra, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson are alternatives.
