Arsenal defender Sol Campbell was today told by England manger Sven-Goran Eriksson that he must play for Arsenal to be considered to play in the World Cup squad.

The Swedish boss admitted he will only gamble on one player - Michael Owen, but for the rest of the players if they are injured they will not be participating. This includes players such as Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge, for whom both have appeared in an England jersey.

"It would be very difficult to pick a player who has not played before the end of the Premiership season - but there are exceptions. If the doctors told me they thought Owen would be ready during the friendly games, I would pick five strikers and take a risk because Owen is our best goal-scorer," said Eriksson, explaining the situation with Michael Owen.

"But in the case of Sol Campbell, I hope he starts to play for Arsenal again and then he plays as we know he can. But if he does not, I cannot pick him," said the boss.

He also admitted that he would be looking for a right-footed left back to replace Cole. "I just can't go out looking for left-footed players. They must have quality as well - otherwise we must go with right-footed players," Eriksson said.
