Spurs manager Martin Jol has told his side to rise to the challenge of taking on Arsenal this Saturday in the last ever North London derby to be held at Highbury stadium. Tottenham have been sitting in 4th spot in the Premiership since the beginning of December but Arsenal are only 4 points behind in 5th with a game in hand. Victory for the Gunners on Saturday would put Arsene Wengers side in pole position to claim the final Champions League spot. Jol knows how tough the game will be having pitted his Spurs side against Arsenal on 3 occasions and is yet to record a victory so far. That said, he believes his young side should be relishing this fixture, not fearing it.
"I think we need a result and we are confident of pulling that off," Jol told Sky Sports News. "Every game is important, we have been doing well, have been consistent lately and that can bring us in to Europe. Everybody wants us to be in the Champions League, that would be unbelievable, and it is still in our own hands." "We have to go to Highbury, which is not easy, but it is an unbelievable challenge and we have to relish our challenges. We are in there and it is the main thing. It will be a tough fight to the end."
Spurs go into the crucial derby match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Man Utd and Jol admitted, the fixture list could have been a little kinder during the run in!
"I could have written another scenario, to be honest!" Jol joked. "We have to play back-to-back games against Manchester United and Arsenal and that is not what you want. But on the other hands, I think we deserved something against Manchester United."
