Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney proved that he was worth £30 million yesterday, after an inspirational performance against rivals Arsenal.

The youngster was in the papers for the wrong reasons on Sunday morning, some reporting that he was £700,000 in debt.

However, the England international has hit back at the paparazzi by running the show as Manchester United beat Arsenal 2-0.

Rooney scored United's first goal, and set up Ji-Sung Park for the second. However, many chances also fell to the 20-year-old, but Jens Lehmann was on hand to clear any danger.

The first chance came when Rooney unleashed a drive from the edge of the area, however Lehmann was equal to it.

Rooney then went clean through on goal, and took it round Lehmann, before smashing the ball at Kolo Toure's arm, the ball then deflected off the post. Graham Poll waved away the protests.

After halftime Rooney got what he deserved, Mikael Silvestre crossed the ball, and Rooney smashed it past Lehmann.

The United ace was not finished either, he crossed for Ji-Sung Park, who pulled away from Emmanuel Eboue, before finishing coolly.

The youngster is certain to be travelling to Germany this year for the World Cup, however all England fans will be hoping that he does not attract any injuries, unlike strike partner Michael Owen.
