AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko is adamant referee Markus Merk made a crucial error in disallowing his header against Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

After losing the first leg 1-0 at the San Siro, Milan but were unable to find a goal to level the tie and Barca held out for a goalless draw to seal their place in the final against Arsenal in Paris. The closest the Rossoneri came was in the second half when Shevchenko was adjudged to have fouled Carles Puyol in the process of heading past Victor Valdes.

The Ukrainian insisted afterwards, however, that Merk had made a mistake, telling Gazzetto dello Sport: "The goal was valid, I did not foul Puyol."
