Michael Ballack's all-round play will be boosted by a move to Chelsea as much as his bank balance, according to former Germany team-mate Steffen Freund.

The Bayern Munich midfielder appears to be Stamford Bridge-bound in the summer and will leave the German champions on less-than-friendly terms once his contract expires.

"I said six months ago he should go to England, to either Manchester United or Chelsea," said Freund. "The Premiership is far better than the Bundesliga now and that is coming from a German who loves his country."
