UEFA have told Tottenham that they will definately not qualify for the Champions League if rivals Arsenal go on to win the competition this year.

Liverpool were granted entry to the competition due to their success last year but there is no rule set in stone to dicatate whether the holders should be re-entered. Last year Everton again rivals to last years finalist finished 4th and were left sweating over a place, in the end UEFA relented and gave Liverpool the chance to retain their title. To avoid this, UEFA stated at the beginning of the season that any champions who did not qualify through the league would replace the team in the last spot for their league.

"I am afraid I have to tell Spurs that there is no alternative," UEFA chief-executive Lars Christer Olsson told Reuters. "This time around we are prepared. We have put the rules in place and those rules will stand."
