Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made surprising claims that he feels Theo Walcoot, who has yet to play a game for his new club or country could fill in for Wayne Rooney at the World Cup this summer.
The 17-year-old pacey forward has yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal since his £5 million (up-front) deal from Southampton in January. Despite this fact Wenger said that he is serious when saying that Walcoot could fill in for Rooney.
"I'm serious," said Wenger. "If Sven calls me to ask if he should take Walcott, I would not stop him doing that. Theo needs games at the moment, but he has something very special. It would be a gamble, but he is an option." The Frenchman admitted that he may use the youngster in the UEFA Champions League final against Barcelona later this month. "I have to decide who is available, but in the same way that I would not doubt Walcott for England I would not be afraid to use him in the Champions League final."
