Tottenham have strenuously denied suggestions they have rekindled their interest in Wigan right-back Pascal Chimbonda.

Spurs have been consistently linked with the wantaway defender throughout the summer and Wigan have rejected two bids from the north London club. But Spurs, who refused to meet Wigan's 6million valuation and turned their attentions elsewhere, were astonished to learn they had been linked with a fresh bid to land the player.

A Spurs spokesperson said: "We have not renewed our interest in this player at all."
