Liverpool defender Steve Finnan has had all racist claims made against him cleared. 

Greater Manchester Police today confirmed that no action would be taken against the youngster. The defender was allegedly said to have abused Manchester United's Patrice Evra. 

Two separate allegations were made by two deaf viewers, saying that they could lip read what Finnan was saying. 

"Obviously we welcome the news. Our own analysis of the television footage proved there was no evidence to back up these claims," said a Liverpool spokesman. 

"It's very unfortunate that Steve's good name has been dragged through the mud in the meantime and we are glad this matter has now been resolved," added the Red's spokesman.
